Parsippany Chance Makers
Combat Food Insecurity!

On Wednesday, April 5th, the Chance Makers from the Parsippany Branch demonstrated their commitment to serving the community by partnering with two non-profit organizations to help combat food insecurity. In the morning, one group of Chance Makers made a total of 190 sandwiches that were donated to the New Dover Methodist Church. Every week, the church distributes food donations from local community members to those in need in the Elizabeth area. As the Chance Makers leaders prepared the sandwiches, they realized the immense impact that one sandwich could make in the community and to those who are hungry.

Later that day, another group of Chance Makers partnered with the NJ Food Bank to serve at their warehouse. During this experience, our group learned about the staggering statistic that more than 650,000 people in New Jersey require food assistance. The Chance Makers leaders, along with other volunteers from different organizations, sorted through food donations and repackaged them to ensure that those who are hungry receive quality food. Together, the Chance Makers and others repackaged about 180 boxes of food.

It is noteworthy that the Chance Makers leaders who served on this day were on their Spring Break. While they could have been resting at home, traveling or hanging out with friends, they chose to dedicate their time to serving those in need. Their joy and dedication to the cause were evident in the smiles and laughter that were shared while wholeheartedly serving the community.
