Chance Makers: Fostering Youth Leadership in 2024 and 2025

We are proud to announce that our 2024-2025 Chance Makers Program has commenced! After an extremely successful start to this year's program, we wanted to share some of our best moments with the rest of the Give Chances Community. This year's Chance Makers program, launched on September 2, has continued its mission of cultivating strong, compassionate youth leaders. With the new addition of a Middle School Chance Makers group, Give Chances is beyond excited help the youth of New Jersey expand their impact as community leaders. As part of Give Chances' youth leadership council, middle and high school students attend bi-monthly workshops to strengthen their leadership skills, grow as community members, and build networks of support that can uplift others. This year's theme is mental health!

Our Middle School Chance Makers have been focusing on becoming advocates and voices for positive change. Through our last three workshops, they have explored what it means to be an advocate for mental health, learned how to convey powerful messages that resonate with others, and practiced developing their own advocacy plans.

To learn how to be effective advocates, our Middle School Chance Makers have analyzed successful examples of advocacy campaigns and learned a framework for crafting effective methods of advocating. Having learned these methods, our students brainstormed causes that they are passionate about, and practiced creating their own campaigns for these causes.

Meanwhile, the High School Chance Makers have been taking a more introspective approach, focusing on their own mental wellbeings while learning how to support others. They’ve been introduced to the concept such as the "Mental Health Bucket," a metaphor for visualizing the various stresses and concerns in their lives. Through discussions and techniques on stress management, self-perception, and achieving balance, they are strengthening their ability to manage their mental health while becoming pillars of support for those around them.
