Give Chances is happy to announce that its educational services will be extending into the summer this year! Give Chances’ summer school program will be open for eight weeks and include a variety of academic and extracurricular activities curated to support the development of both educational and social skills. The subjects and lessons consist of Math, English, Reading, Writing, Science, and History/Social Studies enrichments, with also a focus on a variety of activities. These will include art, physical education, drama, educational games, music, and essential skills such as typing and researching as a way of keeping the students engaged in classes. These lessons and classes will help students in the next year of their schools, so they don’t forget any essential skills in the classroom once they go back to in-person classes.
Another reason why Give Chances believes it’s so important to support the enrichment of students during school is because low-income students do not have the means or access to additional support and resources throughout the summer break. Skills and lessons may be lost or forgotten, which leaves them less prepared in the upcoming school year. By keeping up a light education during summer break, the learning gap that is currently present between current low-income students and others will not be increased. This program is built to help those in need of a steady education and access to mentors and classes that will help them thrive in the upcoming school year.
