From Gaining Hours to Gaining Hearts

When I first heard that I had to volunteer at least 60 hours for my high school, I was very annoyed. Then, I found out about Give Chances and everything changed. At first, I was only volunteering for the community service hours. However, little by little, I started to open my heart out to these kids. As time went by, I began to actually teach them wholeheartedly and looked forward to the days when I met up with them. Sure, it isn’t always exciting or fun, but I love just meeting them for a change and having small talks in between our sessions. These kids have more capability to learn than most of the kids around their age that I have met. It’s been almost a year since I’ve first met them and they have improved in so many ways than I could have possibly imagined. Seeing each of them grow as a student was and is an irreplaceable gift to me, and I hope it is for all of us.
