Chance Makers: Middle School Thrive & Impact

Grades 6 through 8  |  After-School & Summer

The middle school years are when students need the most support. Chance Makers: Middle School Thrive & Impact is designed specifically for 6th through 8th graders, combining academic enrichment, near-peer mentoring, and social-emotional learning to ensure every student enters high school ready and confident.

Program Components

  • Academic Support

One-on-one homework assistance and small-group instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students receive personalized attention based on their current level and learning goals.

  • STE(A)M & AI Literacy

Hands-on project-based learning in computer programming, robotics, digital media, and AI literacy. Students build real skills while developing confidence in technology and creative problem-solving.

  • Near-Peer Mentoring

High school students from Chance Makers serve as trained mentors, providing academic guidance and positive role modeling. These relationships build trust, motivation, and a sense of belonging.

  • Social-Emotional Learning

Weekly activities focused on emotional awareness, stress management, healthy peer relationships, and adapting to new challenges. SEL is integrated throughout the program, not treated as a separate add-on.

  • Impact Showcase

The summer program provides eight weeks of continuous academic support along with youth-led leadership and social impact activities. The program culminates in an Impact Showcase, a capstone event where students present their achievements and share their personal experiences. A special emphasis is placed on the value of near-peer mentoring, highlighting the guidance and encouragement students receive from mentors who have recently navigated similar educational and life experiences.

THE CHANCE MAKERS CONNECTION

From being mentored to becoming a mentor

Youth Education students who are ready to take the next step can apply to join Chance Makers, our Youth Development program. From there, they move from being mentored to becoming mentors themselves, serving as student ambassadors and leaders in their communities. We are not just preparing students for high school. We are preparing them to lead.
